We eventually narrowed down our ideas to two - myths/fairytales of food, and dessert. Though the first wold tempting, and would give us a lot to work with that would be close to our usual fictional animations, it would also mean a lot more work in terms of animating, design and probably sound production. With the animation being the longest we have had to produce, the group decided that it may be a smarter move to do something that we know we could feasibly do in the time we have on this project.
Desserts still give us a lot to work with, though. We could do a How To guide for making desserts which could be tackled in a few ways. The origins of desserts would be fun as well, maybe even giving us a chance to use some typography/motion graphics if we wanted to. Symbolism/culture would also be a fun one - a lot of these ideas can tie in to each other anyway, so we have a decent amount of ideas to merge together. We could have title cards maybe giving facts, images of ingredients or cute patterns involving the particular dessert which would definitely be fun from an illustrative point of view. The animation could maybe end with a showcase of the desserts - maybe gifs/segments of the animation earlier, to summarise and tie it all up. This could even be part of a series - we could do other sorts of foods, like breakfast foods, or even go extra specific and do things like noodle dishes. Of course we wouldn't have time to animate more animations, but it would be good to consider since animation aren't always made or planned to stand alone. This is the sort of thing that could even work well as a youtube channel and though I wouldn't want to plan too far ahead, especially at this point, it is good to know that we could always extend our ideas and create more things for show reels together once this project is over.
